TCVN 13972:2024 on Energy Efficiency of Electric Range Hoods

TCVN 13972:2024 regarding Energy Efficiency for range hoods was compiled by the National Technical Committee TCVN/TC/E1 for Electrical Equipment and Apparatus, proposed by the Vietnam Quality Standards Institute, appraised by the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, and announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology on April 10, 2024.

TCVN 13970:2024 was issued to implement the commitments at COP 26 on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the tasks under Decision No. 888/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister, aiming for sustainable development and energy savings. The Ministry also issued a draft related to energy efficiency for range hoods to collect comments and contributions before issuing this standard.

I. SCOPE OF APPLICATION

This standard specifies the energy efficiency levels and methods for determining the energy efficiency of range hoods operated by mains electricity, used for household and similar purposes.

II. CONTENT OF TCVN 13972:2024

1. Energy efficiency requirements

The energy efficiency of the range hood is determined based on the energy efficiency index (EEI) (see Article 6 in this standard), which must be less than or equal to 100.

2. Testing conditions

TCVN 13972:2024 regarding Energy Efficiency for range hoods applies Clause 6 of IEC 61591:2024. In addition, the following conditions must be met during testing:

Supply voltage: 220 V ± 1 %
Supply frequency: 50 Hz ± 0.5 Hz

3. Determination method according to TCVN 13972:2024

The energy efficiency index (EEI) is calculated as the ratio between the annual energy consumption (AEC) and the standard annual energy consumption (SAEC). For details on the formulas for calculating the above indicators, please see the attached file below.

Note: Fully automatic range hoods and other range hoods have different ways of determining annual energy consumption (AEC).

III. EFFECTIVE DATE

Decision No. 614/QĐ-BKHCN of 2024 announcing the national standard issued by the Minister of Science and Technology, attached with National Standard TCVN 13970:2024 on Vacuum cleaners – Energy efficiency, has been effective since April 10, 2024.
