The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) issued TCVN 13974:2024 regarding energy efficiency for tumble dryers, attached to Decision No. 614/QĐ-BKHCN. This standard marks a significant step in implementing the greenhouse gas emission reduction commitments at COP 26, while meeting the requirements of Decision No. 888/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister.

TCVN 13974:2024 was compiled by the National Technical Committee TCVN/TC/E1 for Electrical Equipment and Apparatus, proposed by the Vietnam Quality Standards Institute, appraised by the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, and announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology. This standard was developed based on comments received from previously published drafts.
I. SCOPE OF APPLICATION
Standard TCVN 13974:2024 specifies the energy efficiency levels and methods for determining the energy efficiency of tumble dryers operated by mains electricity, with a rated drying capacity up to and including 12 kg, used for household and similar purposes.
This standard does not apply to integrated washer-dryers and condenser-type dryers.
II. CONTENT OF TCVN 13974:2024
1. Energy efficiency requirements
Energy efficiency is divided into five grades, where Grade 5 represents the highest energy efficiency corresponding to the lowest energy consumption.

2. Testing conditions
Measurements must be performed at the voltage and frequency specified below:
– Supply voltage: 220 V ± 1 %
– Supply frequency: 50 Hz ± 0.5 Hz
If this voltage and frequency differ from the rated values of the equipment, this must be recorded in the test report.
3. Determination method according to TCVN 13974:2024
Operate the dryer with the standard cotton drying program or an equivalent mode, at full load and partial load. The drying load consists of textile materials in a dry state. Measure and record the energy consumption values and corresponding drying program times for full load Edry and partial load Edry1/2.
The energy efficiency index, EEI, is calculated as the ratio between the weighted annual energy consumption and the standard annual energy consumption. For details on the formulas for calculating these indicators, please see the attached file below.
III. EFFECTIVE DATE
Decision No. 614/QĐ-BKHCN of 2024 announcing the national standard issued by the Minister of Science and Technology, attached with National Standard TCVN 13970:2024 on Vacuum cleaners – Energy efficiency, has been effective since April 10, 2024.
